Few Americans of the Revolution were portrayed in London print shops as early as David Wooster, whose title names him commander in chief of the provincial army against Quebec. Wooster, a Connecticut militia veteran, led the 1775 invasion of Canada, a campaign that failed and made him one of the colonial commanders the British press watched closely. Thomas Hart issued this mezzotint in London on March 26, 1776, and it is catalogued among the political and personal satires of the period. Wooster was mortally wounded in 1777 during a British raid on Connecticut.
