Among the best-known cast-iron facades in New York is the one at Broadway and Broome Streets, shown here in an elevation drawn for the retail firm E.V. Haughwout & Co., which occupied the building. The lithograph appeared as plate 3 in *Illustrations of Iron Architecture*, an 1865 showcase for the Architectural Iron Works, and it presents the front as a set of repeating, foundry-cast parts: columns, arched openings, and pilasters that could be bolted together on site. The store is also remembered for its passenger elevator, one of the earliest used in a commercial building.
