Rather than the lions or aerialists that dominate most circus bills, this one puts Magnus Schult and his troupe of champion Great Danes at the center, under the banner of the combined Adam Forepaugh and Sells Brothers show. The merger of those two rival tent shows in 1896 created one of the larger traveling circuses of its era, and its advertising leaned on spectacle to draw crowds in each town. Printed as a chromolithograph by the Strobridge Litho. Company, the poster shows the bold color and oversized lettering that made such bills hard to miss on fences and walls.
