Helen Taft, daughter of William Howard Taft, is the rider in this glass negative, which sets it apart from the other horse studies on the board. The record gives the date as April 7, 1909, about five weeks after her father took office as president in March of that year. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, whose news service supplied photographs of public figures and events to newspapers in the early twentieth century. The title comes from unverified caption information, so the identification is worth checking against other sources.
