Glenn L. Martin, the aviator who later founded the aircraft company that bears his name, is shown here flying newspapers over Los Angeles in an early airplane, a mix of delivery route and daredevil stunt that few pilots of the day attempted. Martin was a young flier in Southern California during the first years of powered flight, when exhibitions and novel uses for airplanes drew large crowds. The image is a print made in 1941 from a photograph taken around 1911, and it survives among the Glenn L. Martin papers at the Library of Congress.
