Rather than a single scene, this color lithograph assembles Ireland's best-known emblems into one composition: a harp, shamrocks, a Celtic cross, a round tower, and the lakes and abbeys of Killarney in County Kerry. Printed around 1894 by the Eagle Lithograph Company and copyrighted by Thomas O'Brien, it reflects the strong interest in Irish identity among Irish immigrants and their descendants in the United States during the 1890s. Such prints were popular for St. Patrick's Day and other patriotic occasions, when the harp and shamrock signaled cultural pride. The round towers and crosses recall Ireland's early Christian and medieval past, which nationalists often invoked.
