This print shows the frigate *Constitution* hauling the captured British ship *Cyane* after the engagement that took place in February 1815, as titled on the image. The fight came at the end of the War of 1812, after the Treaty of Ghent had been signed in December 1814 but before word of the peace reached the Atlantic, so the action was fought in a war already decided on paper. Edward Mueller's painting, reproduced here as a lithograph in an edition limited to 250, comes from the decades when Americans were revisiting the war and celebrating its naval heroes. The ship's nickname, "Old Ironsides," was already well known by then.
