A stereo card from the Arctic Region exhibit at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis shows a village of tents, captioned as "topeks," with a snow igloo at right. World's fairs of this era often staged living displays of Indigenous peoples, presenting them as curiosities of a supposedly vanishing way of life. Underwood & Underwood of New York issued such stereographs in large numbers, and visitors and armchair viewers used a stereoscope to see the scene in apparent depth. The caption's wording reflects the period's language, so the card is best read as a record of how the fair framed the people it displayed.
