Taken at 24th and M Streets NW in Washington, this view shows men at work inside a Weather Bureau office in 1926. The Bureau was then part of the Department of Agriculture, and its staff collected observations, drew weather maps, and issued forecasts that reached newspapers, railroads, and farmers across the country. The print was made later, in the 1980s or 1990s, from a photograph of the 1920s, so it preserves a working government interior from the years before radio and wire services became routine sources of forecasts.
