Held in early September 1872, the Ninth annual New England Fair at Lowell, Massachusetts, appears here from a high vantage point, with a railroad train in the foreground. Agricultural fairs of this kind drew large crowds in the 1870s, and rail lines brought visitors from across the region. D. Drummond drew the view and Chas. H. Crosby & Co. of Boston printed it, showing tents, horse races, and spectators all at once. The sheet is dated 1875, three years after the event it records.
