This view shows the railroad station at Stockbridge, Massachusetts, with the wooded slopes of Ice Glen rising behind the tracks. The photograph dates to about 191-, when the Berkshire hill towns were drawing growing numbers of summer visitors by rail, and the depot was the gateway for travelers heading to the village's inns and cottages. The composition sets the working station against the natural backdrop that made the area popular, a pairing that was common in promotional views of resort towns of the period.
