Southbury, a small town in west-central Connecticut, is the place this record names, and the station itself is the stated subject. The notes date the print only to around the 1910s, a period when the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad carried most passenger and freight traffic across the state and modest depots like this one were central to village life. Photographs of ordinary stations were often made to document the rail network and its buildings, so the image offers a glimpse of rural travel just before automobiles and trucks began to reshape it.
