Taken at Arlington on December 27, 1929, this glass negative is labeled with the name Rubio, though the record notes that the title comes from unverified data written by the National Photo Company on the negative or its sleeve. The firm was a commercial photography business in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, known for documenting public life, monuments and visitors to the capital. The collection came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947, and like many glass plates of this age, the negative may show streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of its original coatings.
