Its title borrows a line of autumn verse, "October's bright blue weather," and the poster pairs that crisp season with a simple invitation to read. Its subject tags point to boys in Illinois and to Halloween, a reminder that the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, used posters during the Depression to promote reading and public institutions. Attributed to Albert M. Bender, the design was printed in silkscreen, a bold, inexpensive method the project's poster unit relied on to produce many images quickly.
