A globe-trotting story hour is the subject of this silkscreen poster, which promoted children's reading programs at a Chicago library center in 1936. The Federal Art Project's poster division produced such work for the Works Progress Administration, and the WPA Statewide Library Project in Illinois used posters like this to draw young patrons to branch libraries during the Depression, when free programs offered children a place to read and gather. The back bears a date stamp from November 1940, which suggests it stayed in use for several years after it was printed.
