A tall, narrow color lithograph from 1939, this poster for *Gone with the Wind* pairs Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, the film's two leads, in a single vertical design. The movie, adapted from Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel and directed by Victor Fleming among others, was one of Hollywood's most ambitious productions of its era, following Scarlett O'Hara through the Civil War and Reconstruction South. Posters like this one were printed in large runs and pasted on theater fronts and billboards to draw audiences to the film's release, so the stars' portraits were the main selling point. The poster's modest size and the "s.n." publisher note in its record reflect how many film ads of the period were produced.
