Few early Yokohama prints show foreign visitors as plainly as this three-sheet triptych, which places them at the Gankirō teahouse, where they eat, drink, and are entertained by courtesans. Signed by Ikkeisai Yoshiiku and attributed to the engraver Hori Take, the print belongs to the Yokohama-e genre that grew up after the port opened to foreign trade in 1859. Its title and subject matter reflect the period's fascination with the newcomers and their meeting places. The print was later included in the Fowler Museum's exhibition *Steeped in History: The Art of Tea*.
