Few designs in this group are as specific about their purpose as this color lithograph, titled *Restaurant thé*, which presents a dining and tea room for a modern city. It was reproduced as plate 26 in *A Modern City*, a set of designs by the French architect Rob Mallet-Stevens, and the print was published in London by Benn Brothers around 1922. Mallet-Stevens was a leading figure in French modernist architecture in the 1920s, and his interiors favored clean geometry, flat planes and bold color over ornament. The image shows how a fashionable public eating place of the period was imagined.
