This wide panoramic print, measuring 10 by 50 inches, shows a bathing parade on Balboa Island, a resort spot in Newport Bay, Orange County, California. In the 1920s, Southern California towns often staged bathing beauty parades and contests to promote their beaches and attract visitors, and the image captures that mix of publicity and seaside leisure. The print was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office on September 14, 1925, by M. F. Weaver of Los Angeles, which provides a documented link to the photographer's commercial work of the period.
