Printed in Philadelphia around 1845, this lithograph presents courtship as a game, its title promising a "novel & interesting game of matrimony" laid out like a map. Parlor games of this kind were popular in the 1840s, when players moved counters along winding routes toward a wedding, turning the stages of romance into a shared pastime. The sheet was drawn and printed by J. Dainty, who copyrighted the design, in a city where lithography had become a common way to produce affordable images for family entertainment.
