Printed as a cigar label for the Omaha trade, this lithograph names Missouri Valley, Iowa, a river town on the Missouri that was gaining importance as railroads reached the region. The text promotes tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo district of Cuba, a area long prized for its leaf, and credits M.M. Smith with the copyright and F. Heppenheimer & Co. of New York with the lithography. Commercial lithography like this was inexpensive enough to print in quantity, so surviving examples show how makers marketed premium goods to buyers across the Midwest after the Civil War.
