Recruiting for the First Replacement Regiment of Engineers, this color lithograph urges men to "join the engineers and make American history." It sets an age range of 18 to 21 and 31 to 41 and directs applicants to the commanding officer at Washington Barracks, D.C. Replacement regiments trained and held soldiers to fill gaps in American Expeditionary Forces units in France, so the call was for men who could build and maintain roads, railways, bridges and camps behind the front. The design is credited to Schutte, and the printer was Latham Litho & Printing Co. of Brooklyn, New York.
