The Old Post Office stood on Pennsylvania Avenue, where its tall clock tower rose above the street and the neighboring buildings shown here. Designed by Willoughby J. Edbrooke in the Romanesque Revival style, the building was completed in 1899 and served as a major postal facility for the capital for decades. This view by A.C. Bosselman of New York, made around 1910, captures the avenue as a busy mix of government and commercial life.
