This view centers the Statue of Liberty on its island in New York Harbor, a landmark only a few years old when the picture was made. Bartholdi's gift from France was dedicated in 1886, and the island was then still called Bedloe's Island. The photograph is credited to S.R. Stoddard of Glens Falls, New York, a regional studio that sold scenic views of towns and famous sights to a broad public eager to see the new monument.
