The name on this glass negative, Lola Clark Pearson, comes from notes the Bain News Service made on the negatives or caption cards, and the Library of Congress has not verified it, so the identification should be read with that caveat. Pearson was a California landscape architect and garden designer, working at a time when few women entered that profession. The Bain News Service was a New York picture agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers in the early decades of the twentieth century, and its catalog entries were often brief and hand-written, which explains why this record offers so little beyond the name.
