Two Democratic senators are named in this glass negative: Joseph T. Robinson of Arkansas and Oscar W. Underwood of Alabama, who both served in the Senate in the early 1920s. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded official and political life in the capital, made the exposure. The date on the negative falls in early December 1923, the week the 68th Congress convened, though the record marks that date as unverified. Streaks and blemishes across the plate come from the natural deterioration of its original coatings.
