This view, titled for the edge of a burned district at Franklin and Sacramento Streets, shows the line where wrecked buildings give way to those still standing in San Francisco after the April 1906 earthquake and fire. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced a large catalog of American scenes sold as prints and souvenirs, made the photograph. The record's date and caption details are old and not fully verified, but the scene matches the devastation that consumed much of the city in the days after the quake. It is worth noticing how abruptly the damage ends within the frame, a reminder of how unevenly the fires spread across the city.
