The title names a William J. Sears of Florida, though the Library of Congress notes that it comes from unverified data the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve. The negative is dated roughly 1921 to 1924, when the Washington, D.C.-based company was producing large numbers of photographs on glass plates. Look closely and you may see streaks and blemishes from natural deterioration of the original coatings. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library in 1947.
