Women reaping grain on cultivated land near Krasnoyarsk, a city on the Yenisei River in central Siberia, is the subject of this 1885 print. The catalog record spells the city "Krasno i arsk," a variant worth knowing when searching for related images. George Kennan traveled across Siberia in 1885 and 1886 for *The Century Magazine*, chiefly to report on the penal exile system, and his papers hold photographs of the regions he passed through. Scenes of women working in the fields are less common in that material than images of prisons and travel, which makes this view of rural labor especially useful.
