Menomonee Falls, a village in Waukesha County a short distance northwest of Milwaukee, took its name from the Menomonee River's drop over rock ledges, a fall that had long powered gristmills and sawmills. By 1913 the village remained small, with its economy rooted in farming and dairying on the surrounding land, while many residents looked toward Milwaukee. That city's factories, along with its streetcar and interurban lines, drew workers and goods up and down the valley in the years before World War I. This elevated panoramic view records the village's streets and buildings as they stood that year, the town that local families knew as home.
