A general named Duncan gives this 1912 military funeral its title, though that name comes from the National Photo Company's own label and has not been independently verified. The company worked in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, photographing official ceremonies, street life and public figures, and its glass negatives make up a large part of the Library of Congress holdings. Look closely at the plate and you may notice streaks and small blemishes, which come from the coating on the glass breaking down over time rather than from the scene itself.
