Crowds fill the ground in this view of the Gettysburg battlefield cemetery, taken in 1863 when the site was being set apart for the Union dead from the July battle. The dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery took place on November 19, 1863, and it was at that ceremony that Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. The stereograph was issued by E. & H.T. Anthony, a New York firm that sold paired views like this one for viewing through a stereoscope at home.
