The Commodore's Quarters aboard USS Constitution is the officers' living space in the frigate's stern, set apart from the crew's berth deck by a partition and fitted with its own cabin, bunk and dining area. Launched at Boston in 1797 and built at the Hartt shipyard in the North End, Constitution earned the nickname "Old Ironsides" for the way enemy shot seemed to bounce off her oak hull during the War of 1812. The ship has been berthed at the Charlestown Navy Yard, now part of Boston National Historical Park, since the 1930s, where visitors can see how a senior officer lived at sea in the early nineteenth century.
