Set in a double case, this sixth-plate daguerreotype shows an unidentified woman seated in a chair, head and shoulders turned slightly to the left. A note inside the case, behind the image of a man, names a Mrs. M.M. Bradford of Rutland, Vermont, which hints at a family connection between the two portraits. Made between 1850 and 1860, when daguerreotypes were the leading portrait method, each plate is a single mirror-like image that shows its best only when tilted under light. The photographer is not recorded.
