A woman in Western dress appears among children playing on stilts, a pairing that sets this sheet apart from the many foreign-themed prints of its time. It comes from the series *Gaikokujin yūkō no zu*, or *Amusements of Foreigners*, which appeared after Japan opened its ports to foreign trade in 1859. Ukiyo-e artists used scenes like this to show curious Japanese viewers how Westerners dressed and spent their leisure, often with a light, observant humor. The print is signed Yoshitora, though the catalog also lists Kunichika, Kuniaki and Toyokuni among its makers.
