The Starlight Roof was the hotel's rooftop ballroom, a place for dinner and dancing high above Park Avenue, and this photograph shows the room as it looked in the mid-1930s. The Waldorf-Astoria had moved to its Art Deco tower at Park Avenue and 49th Street only a few years earlier, in 1931, and its rooftop rooms became a fashionable setting for New York society and visitors. The record dates the print to about 1935, and its copyright notation suggests it was made to be published or licensed, so it likely served as a showcase for the hotel's glamour during the Depression years.
