This sheet from the *Tōkyō meishō zu* (Scenic Places in Tokyo) series is notable for its waterfront view, with wharves, sailboats, and foreign visitors among the city's scenes. Dated 1870, it appeared just a few years after Edo was renamed Tokyo and became the seat of the new imperial government, when the city was opening to foreign trade and travel. The signature reads "Hiroshige ga," but the print was likely made by Hiroshige II or III, successors who used the name after the original artist's death. The series records a capital in transition, where older townscapes met new ships and new visitors.
