Three sheets joined into one vertical view, this 1853 woodcut pairs women with falling snow, and its title, *Yuki no nagame* ("gazing at the snow"), sets the quiet mood. The record credits the design jointly to Utagawa Kunisada and Hiroshige, with Kunisada's signature on the side panels and Hiroshige's on the center, though the attribution is still being checked. The title belongs to *Fūryū Genji*, a series that updated *The Tale of Genji* with the fashions of Edo, so courtly romance appears in the dress and manners of the artists' own day. Notice the color and patterning of the kimono, which show the craft that made late Edo woodblock prints so admired.
