Few recruiting posters promise as much as this one: a free technical education in trades ranging from telephony and cable splicing to wireless telegraphy, photography, and even carrier pigeons. The Army was still recruiting in 1919, just after the Armistice, and the Signal Corps had become central to American military communication in France, where its crews strung field telephone lines, operated radio sets, and kept messages moving. Printed by the Government Printing Office from a design by J. McGibbon Brown, the poster reads almost like a catalog of the technical skills the war had pushed into mainstream use.
