Billed as a midnight gala on New Year's Eve with fifteen acts, this 1936 San Diego poster promised a full evening of vaudeville under the Federal Road Show banner. It was produced under the Federal theater Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, which employed out-of-work actors, singers, and stagehands during the Depression. Its traveling shows brought live entertainment to communities that seldom saw professional theater, and the poster's bold flat colors reflect the silkscreen process the WPA poster unit used to advertise them inexpensively.
