The only name attached to this negative is "Capt. D.M. Goodacre," a title taken from the National Photo Company's notes on the sleeve and not independently verified. The National Photo Company worked in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives record many people and events in the capital. Herbert A. French gave the collection to the Library of Congress in 1947. Viewers should look for streaks and other blemishes that come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coating, which are part of the negative's physical history.
