Captain William C. Ocker is the subject of this glass negative, with his name and the date April 25, 1923 noted on the negative or its sleeve. The National Photo Company, which worked in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, made many portraits and news pictures of government figures and military officers, and its plates were often labeled with handwritten captions like this one. The date is taken from a related negative in the collection, so it is not confirmed by this plate alone. Viewers may notice streaks and blotches across the glass, which come from the original coating deteriorating over time.
