Two senators, Charles L. McNary of Oregon and Duncan U. Fletcher of Florida, sit for this portrait, which the record dates to April 19, 1923, though that date is unverified and comes from information written on the negative sleeve. Both men served in the Senate during the early 1920s, a period when Washington studios such as the National Photo Company regularly photographed lawmakers and officials for publication and official use. The glass plate shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of its original coating.
