A small glass negative dated August 15, 1921, shows a senator named Sutherland, and it comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that recorded officials, visitors, and public events in the early twentieth century. The name comes from the company's own notes and is unverified, so the sitter's identity should be confirmed before citing it. Glass negatives like this one were fragile and light-sensitive, and this example shows streaks and blemishes from the breakdown of its original coating, which affects how sharp the image appears. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
