Titled *The Arm Chair*, this stereograph is named for a rock formation in Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, where a natural stone seat caught the eye of visitors. Issued in 1892 as number 29 in a series of cave views, it was published by William I. Marshall and copyrighted by Ben Hains. Stereo cards like this were meant for a stereoscope, which merged two slightly offset photographs into one view with striking depth. The card's subjects of stalactites, stalagmites and cave passages show why the cave's mineral formations drew so much interest from late nineteenth-century tourists.
