Here is the Golden Room at the Mexican Embassy in Washington, photographed by the National Photo Company around 1916 or 1917. The room's name comes from the company's notes on the negative sleeve, so it is a working label rather than a verified one. The embassy operated during the Mexican Revolution, a period of upheaval that strained relations between Mexico and the United States. The glass plate shows streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of its original coating, which gives the image an aged texture.
