Few posters from this period sell a place by its elevation, and this one leads with the claim that Sea Cliff sits 250 feet above sea level, reachable "by land or water." The village of Sea Cliff sponsored the 1936 silkscreen, which the Library of Congress holds in its Work Projects Administration Poster Collection. The record credits Elmer Rice (1892-1967) with the design. During the Depression, New Deal agencies made posters like this to draw visitors and boost local business, and the bold flat color of silkscreen printing made them easy to read from a distance. The verso bears a stamp dated February 2, 1939, which suggests the poster was still in circulation a few years after it was made.
