This WPA poster advertises *One Third of a Nation*, a Federal theater Project production whose title comes from Franklin Roosevelt's 1937 inaugural remark about Americans who were ill-housed and ill-nourished. Arthur Arent's Living Newspaper play dealt with bad housing, and the record ties the poster to theatrical productions and housing conditions in Pennsylvania during the 1930s. Leon Carlin's color silkscreen shows the bold, graphic style the Federal theater used to publicize its work.
