The lighthouse here is identified only as an old tower, so its exact location and builder are not recorded. Lighthouses of this kind were usually raised on headlands, islands, or offshore shoals to mark dangerous coastlines, and their lamps guided ships through darkness and fog long before electronic navigation. Many were later rebuilt, automated, or retired, which makes an older tower like this one a reminder of earlier maritime life. Its masonry, lantern room, and surrounding grounds offer clues to the period and to the work of keeping such a light burning.
