Unlike most recruiting posters of its time, this one carries no slogan, so the beckoning gesture of the uniformed soldier does all the persuading. Issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in London in 1915, it was printed by David Allen & Sons in Harrow as a halftone poster, and its catalog number, 129, places it in the committee's numbered series. The committee was formed to encourage voluntary enlistment in Britain's expanding wartime army, and the poster reflects that effort to win recruits before conscription was introduced in 1916.
